Initial Setup:
Please refer to the “Installation Instructions” document included with the unit.
IMPORTANT NOTE: To prime the unit for initial usage, turn the unit on for 15 minutes, off for 5 minutes and back on for 15 minutes. This helps to distribute the coolant throughout all the seals in the compressor and help the unit’s air conditioning function operate at peak efficiency.
After your unit has been properly installed and primed, the Operating Instructions below are provided to help you understand how to use the unit for optimal comfort and enjoyment.
The Operator Dials:
The ThermAssure has two (2) operating dials on the faceplate on the front of the unit:
The upper dial is used to enable either the heating element or the cooling system. Both the heating and cooling systems have two fan speeds to choose from, high and low.
If you turn the upper dial clockwise, you are engaging the unit in cooling mode. The first position is for the cooling mode’s low blower speed and the second position is for the cooling mode’s high blower speed.
If you turn the upper dial counter-clockwise, you are engaging the unit in heating mode. The first position is for the heating mode’s low blower speed and the second position is for the heating mode’s high blower speed.
The lower dial is used to set the temperature for either the heater or air conditioner, whichever function is currently enabled by the upper dial. There is a thermostat inside the unit that will automatically turn the unit off when the temperature set by the dial is attained. When the thermostat detects a temperature differential, the unit will automatically turn back on again. If the temperature dial is turned clockwise, you will be setting the unit to maintain a cooler temperature and if turn counter-clockwise, a warmer temperature.
Functional Overview:
Air Conditioner, Heater, Dehumidifier
The ThermAssure is technically two products in one. The unit has a built in air conditioner and a heater. The system operates in only one of these modes at time, set by the upper dial on the faceplate. If the upper dial is turned clockwise from the “Off” position, the unit operates as an Air Conditioner. If the upper dial is turned counter-clockwise from the “Off” position, the unit operates as a Heater.
Unless the unit is switched to “Off”, the blower fan will always operate. There are two speeds of the fan, High and Low, and they are user selected with the upper dial.
If the AC or heater is automatically turned off by the thermostat (based on the temperature level set by the operator with the lower dial on the faceplate), the unit will continue to blow air at the High or Low fan speed selected. This is helpful to keep air circulating in the temperature controlled space, whether or not the air is still being heated or cooled.
When in the air conditioning mode, the ThermAssure also serves as a dehumidifier removing excess moisture from the air. It is capable of lowering humidity levels below 70% thus helping to prevent mold and mildew growth in your enclosure. Because the unit is only 2500 BTU, it does not produce much condensate so unit was not designed with a drain. A small amount of condensate may be produced, so install the unit in a location keeping that in mind.
The pollen filters in the unit's kit provide active control of airborne particles such as dust, pollen, and pet dander or fur when used with dog houses. These filters can be installed in the unit’s intake and output ports on the front of the ThermAssure. They are washable and change out in a matter of seconds.
Temperature Control
Another important thing to understand is that the unit was designed as a portable unit to control temperatures in small spaces. As such, it has a lower performance air conditioner than what some customers may expect based upon their experience with common in the industry that are most often 10,000 BTU and above. At 2500 BTU, the air conditioner does not produce “ice cold” air.
To achieve cooler temperatures, the unit is designed as a closed loop system, taking mostly recycled air from the temperature controlled space instead of pulling in new air from outside. There is some new air intake to preserve freshness, but it is minimal compared to the amount of air recycled through the system.
The ThermAssure doesn’t work like some other units that rapidly cool or heat the air and then kick off. It is designed for a more continual operation making small gradual adjustments to the air temperature. This method of reconditioning the recycled air requires a lot less power for the unit to operate making it ideal to run off of a small power generator.
Maintenance:
The ThermAssure is a very low maintenance product if used under normal operating circumstances. Here are a few things however that you can do to keep your ThermAssure running at peak performance:
Cleaning the Air Filters
The ThermAssure has a parts kit that includes two (2) circular air filters that can be installed in the air intake and output ports on the front of the unit. After prolonged use in an environment with exposure to airborne debris such as pet fur, these filters should be periodically removed and cleaned.
Cleaning the Evaporator
When facing the front of the ThermAssure, the evaporator is on your right-hand side of the unit. If used in an environment with lots of airborne debris, the unit’s performance can degrade if the evaporator collects lots of this debris and becomes clogged.
It is recommended to use a high pressure air hose to blow any debris clean from the evaporator.
Summary:
Comfort and safety are the primary benefits of the ThermAssure’s all-in-one functions of an air conditioner, heater, dehumidifier, and air filters.
The ThermAssure has brought the joy of temperature controlled air to many small areas that are often far too small for the more powerful air conditioners and heaters commonly found in the market.
Thank you for becoming one of the many customers that have had years of enjoyment from their ThermAssure purchase.
